An incident at James Monroe High School precipitated an expedited dismissal on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a statement from Fredericksburg City Public Schools, a written threat was discovered at the high school at approximately 2:00 PM. While the threat was not deemed credible, school staff worked with law enforcement to ensure the building was clear and safe to re-enter. The incident is currently under investigation by law enforcement. Details about the nature of the threat will not be released at this time.
Teachers and staff were observed helping guide students to vehicles for an expedited dismissal while members of law enforcement secured the scene and helped direct traffic. A K9 unit was also on scene. James Monroe High School experienced three early dismissals at the beginning of the school year due to similar threats.
The school will begin graduation ceremonies tomorrow afternoon.
