A child is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries after reportedly being struck by a vehicle outside the Central Park Walmart early Tuesday afternoon, according to City of Fredericksburg Public Information Officer Caitlyn McGhee.
That individual is described as alert and oriented.
Shortly after 12:00 PM, a call was received for a struck pedestrian at the Central Park Walmart. Initial call notes indicated that the patient, reportedly a five year old child, wasn’t breathing before they were quickly corrected to state that the individual was alert and suffering from a head injury.
An off-duty medic was also nearby to provide assistance, according to radio traffic.
On the scene, officers with the Fredericksburg Police Department were investigating two blue SUVs in area near the front handicap lanes adjacent to the store’s home and garden entrance. A shopping cart with significant damage was also observed being removed from the area of the incident.
McGhee says that two adult individuals also received medical treatment as a result of the incident; one is currently at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and the other was treated and released at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by officers from the Traffic Unit.
