Walker-Grant Middle School Celebrates Military Kids With Purple Up Color Run

The School Has Nearly 150 Students With Relatives In The Armed Forces
Walker-Grant Middle School ended the year with a Purple Up Color Run for students with family serving in the armed forces.

Walker-Grant Middle School ended the school year with a Purple Up Color Run to honor military-connected students.

Organized by Student Support Specialist Tony Wishard, the event allowed 6th, 7th and 8th graders a chance to run through a pop of purple smoke / spray to support their classmates with loved ones serving in the military. Walker-Grant Middle School has approximately 30 students “directly-connected” to somebody serving, while nearly 150 others also have relatives in the armed forces.

Members of the School Ambassador Program (formerly known as from Wishard’s Boys & Bowties) helped staff facilitate the event and others throughout the year, working with new students on their transition to WGMS. Wishard says he started working with some of those students as early as the second grade.
