Vehicle Strikes Townhome, Injures Driver And Passenger

Both Individuals Were Taken To A Local Hospital For Treatment
The Fredericksburg Fire Department responds to a single motor vehicle accident involving a townhome in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

A single vehicle motor vehicle accident resulted in injuries to both its occupants and the closure of Lafayette Boulevard near the traffic circle on Thursday afternoon after a pickup truck struck the corner of a townhome.

At approximately 1:00 PM, a call was received for a single vehicle motor vehicle accident near the 1300 block of Lafayette Boulevard. That caller reported that a vehicle had struck one of the townhomes, which had subsequently caught fire.

On the scene, two individuals were observed being assisted by EMS in exiting a pickup truck that had impacted the corner townhome near the traffic circle. The passenger was immediately placed on a stretcher with significant injuries, while the driver was treated by first responders nearby before also requiring a gurney. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. An area of the front yard of the townhome appeared to have caught fire before being recently extinguished.

The vehicle was removed from its impact with the townhome by crews of the Fredericksburg Fire Department before being removed from the scene by a local tow company. Employees from Columbia Gas were on the scene to inspect the damage, which included a gas line.

Lanes of Lafayette Boulevard towards Spotsylvania were closed briefly while traffic was diverted through the Fredericksburg Park townhomes neighborhood until they were reopened after approximately a half hour.

The cause of the incident is unknown and remains under investigation by the Fredericksburg Police Department.
