School resource officers in Spotsylvania County are investigating an incident involving a parent entering a Ni River Middle School bus to confront students on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident, which came to light after an email from Ni River Middle School principal Dr. Ashley Faaborg, states that a parent entered a Ni River Middle School bus at one of its afternoon stops without permission and yelled at approximately 15 students for several minutes before exiting. Faaborg says that the school bus driver “repeatedly” asked the individual to leave.
The email concludes that the incident is under investigation, that appropriate action will be taken per school board policy, and that counselors would be available for any children in need.
A screenshot of Faaborg’s email was posted to a local Facebook group anonymously on Wednesday evening.
Spotsylvania school board policy states that individuals who refuse to leave school grounds, including school buses, when instructed by an authorized individual may be prosecuted.
hyperbole reached out to Spotsylvania County Public Schools Director of Communications Rene Daniels, who confirmed the authenticity of Faaborg’s email but did not respond to questions regarding if charges would be pursued in Wednesday’s incident.
According to Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Major Liz Scott, an SRO supervisor discovered the same anonymous Facebook post on Thursday morning. That supervisor conferred with the school resource officer, who was also unaware of any incident. Scott says that neither transportation nor emergency services were notified of any disturbance.
Currently, the school resource officer is working with administration to conduct interviews and review footage of the incident. Scott says that charges may be sought.
This story is developing and will be updated with details as they become available.
