Fire Thwarted At Eagle Village Tuesday Evening

The Incident Followed A Larger Fire Last December
Emergency units respond to a reported structure fire at the Giant location in the Eagle Village shopping center.

A fire was stopped before it could start on Tuesday night at the Eagle Village shopping center.

Shortly before 6:00 PM, a call for a reported structure fire was received at the Giant location on the 1200 block of Emancipation Highway. Radio traffic indicated that a strong burning smell was present and that the building was being evacuated.

After a short time on scene, crews identified a faulty freezer door that started to ignite the surrounding area. Fire fighters removed the door and worked to ventilate the structure before notifying the health department due to the incident’s vicinity to the seafood and deli departments.

Tuesday night’s response was located in the same Eagle Village shopping complex as the December fire that destroyed several businesses. hyperbole covered that incident live and was first to report that investigators are having difficulty identifying the cause of the fire due to the amount of destruction.
