Fire Interrupts Service At Downtown Restaurant

The Restaurant And Upstairs Apartments Were Evacuated Safely
The Fredericksburg Fire Department tackled an afternoon grease fire at Sammy T's restaurant in downtown Fredericksburg.

A fire interrupted service at a downtown restaurant but resulted in no injuries on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 3:00 PM, a Fredericksburg Traffic Alert detailed a reported structure fire at Sammy T’s restaurant in the 800 block of Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg.

On the scene, units from the Fredericksburg Fire Department and Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management worked to address the main dining area in addition to the upstairs apartment units. The response resulted in Caroline Street being closed briefly to traffic.

Fredericksburg Fire Chief Michael Jones tells hyperbole that crews arrived to find a grease fire in the kitchen, which was quickly extinguished. Jones says all of the occupants were able to safely evacuate the building and that the incident resulted in no injuries.

Ownership tells hyperbole that the business is currently waiting for the fire department to ventilate the scene before the health department can complete an inspection and the restaurant can reopen to customers.

Caroline Street reopened to traffic shortly before 4:00 PM.
