Fredericksburg’s first responders were the targets of vehicle break-ins early Monday morning.
Sources tell hyperbole that around 2:00 AM, several personal vehicles belonging to members of the Fredericksburg Fire Department were broken into outside Fire Station 2 on Altoona Drive off of Plank Road.
Photos show smashed windows on several SUVs, as well as personal belongings laying on the ground. A stolen ID belonging to a Spotsylvania firefighter was alleged to have been recovered from the scene and given to deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident is reportedly under investigation by officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department, who are said to have also obtained surveillance footage from the station. Both fire stations in the city allow open access to parking lots containing personal vehicles of staff.
The break-ins at Fire Station 2 are similar to incidents that targeted Richmond firefighters earlier this year.
The Fredericksburg Police Department referred questions to the City of Fredericksburg’s Public Information Officer, who has yet to comment.
Update (01/13/25 at 10:20 AM): Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management Fire Chief Jay Cullinan was able to confirm that two fire stations in Spotsylvania were targeted for vehicle break-ins, as well.
Fire Station 4 at Four Mile Fork and Fire Station 6 at Salem Church Road experienced similar incidents late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
Update (01/13/25 at 10:31 AM): Reports of vehicle break-ins in King George County are false. King George County Emergency Management Division Captain Steven Lynd confirmed that no incidents of break-ins occurred at first responders in that county last evening or early this morning.
