A structure fire at a car repair shop caused a multi-unit response in downtown Fredericksburg on Monday morning.
At approximately 10:00 AM, a call for a structure fire was received in the 300 block of Princess Anne Street. That address was quickly corrected to the 1900 block, with the caller reporting that smoke was emanating from the rear of one of the businesses.
On the scene, a column of smoke was visible behind one of the car repair shops before crews from Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania arrived to address a fire in one of the garage bays. Radio traffic relayed that crews worked to cut holes in the roof and rear walls while dealing with heavy foliage and steep elevation at the rear of the building.
After approximately a half hour on scene, the incident was deemed under control.
Fredericksburg Fire Department Chief Michael Jones tells hyperbole that there were no injuries but that the response was challenging due to the building’s insulation and a number of tires stored in the rafters.
The department’s Facebook page later announced that one dog was rescued from the scene and is unharmed.
Crews remained on scene for several hours before reopening Princess Anne Street to traffic.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
