An incident involving a firearm closed Alum Spring Park to the public briefly on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Fredericksburg Police Department PIO Sarah Morris, a report was received of suspicious gun activity at the 600 block of Greenbrier Court at approximately 12:00 PM. A Fredericksburg CRIME ALERT was issued shortly thereafter asking those in the area to shelter in place. Witnesses at the scene did not report hearing the sound of any gun shots.
Units from the Fredericksburg Police Department and the University of Mary Washington Police were observed blocking off traffic to Alum Spring Park on Greenbrier Drive. A drone was also spotted in use in the surrounding area.
The person of interest has since been identified and is now located with family outside of the state of Virginia. Alum Spring Park has reopened and there is no danger to the public.
