Fredericksburg’s newest hotel has a name.
Vakos Companies announced this week that it will be “The Publisher Hotel” that opens in the first quarter of 2024 with 98 rooms, including three penthouse suites and one presidential. Joining it is another 8,000 square feet for high-end restaurants, a 6,500 square foot Anytime Fitness location and another 50 luxury apartment units in the Amelia House building next door.
The name honors the history of the site, which once was the home of the Free-Lance Star newspaper.
“Fredericksburg is intertwined in American history, our city’s stories are American stories, and The Publisher stands at the very location from which they were told,” Vakos Companies said in a press release.
“The Publisher will stand as an icon for setting those stories free and invites guests to be our communities’ new storytellers, creating memories and stories from the center of where they have been and now will forever be told.”
In addition to The Publisher Hotel and Amelia House buildings, the overall redevelopment plan also includes an additional 34 new apartment units and 321 parking space garage in the adjacent William Square building. A mixed-use building is also planned for the corner of Douglas and William Streets in the future.
