Members of the Chancellor High School PTO had a special surprise for librarians at Spotsylvania County High Schools this morning.

Huge balloon bouquets were delivered to public high school librarians this morning, with each balloon offering a note of support. Money was raised in the form of $1 donations from members of the community. Those who contributed had the opportunity to choose a message to write and the high school library that would receive the balloons. Approximately a dozen volunteers consisting of parents and current / former students helped fill the balloons and attach the messages.

Deliveries will be made to all five Spotsylvania high schools before the day is done.

The show of support comes after Spotsylvania County Public Schools Superintendent Mark Taylor suggested that public school libraries could be closed and their staff laid off if a nearly $20 million budget shortfall isn’t closed. Those discussions are still ongoing.

Tomorrow is #NationalSchoolLibrarianDay.
